Basecamp: Southern California Team
Friday July 23rd to Tuesday August 10th
As recommended by health care professionals, we will house at a centrally located Orange County, CA. hotel for our entire trip and have a short commute to each of our five USTA sanctioned tournaments. Our hotel in Irvine, where we have stayed for many years has air conditioning, complimentary wireless internet access, indoor swimming pool and fitness center, among other features. This “bubble” type of approach will limit our travel and keep us in a “pod” small tennis team. The later summer departure will allow participants to participate in other summer programmes and also will sharpen your match-playing skills just prior to fall high school tennis team tryouts.
Departure: Friday July 23rd
July 24-26: Level 4 Lakewood Tennis Center age group tournament. Single-elimination.
July 27-30: Level 4 Anaheim Tennis Club age group tournament, Singles and doubles with feed-in consolation.
July 31-August 2: Level 6 at Jack Kramer Club, Rolling Hills Estates, age group single elimination.
August 3-6: Level 5 Newport Beach, age group singles and doubles, round robin.
August 7-9: Level 6 Match Point Tennis Academy, Santa Ana. Age group single elimination singles and doubles.
ALL tournaments count for your Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) and for ranking in your home section. Because of the new USTA junior tournament system starting in January 2021, we do expect some changes to tournament lengths and dates once the So. California section issues its schedule.
Sights and Activities:
During the 19 days of our tennis tour, we visit major Orange County and Los Angeles sights like Beverly Hills, the Westwood/UCLA campus, Santa Monica Pier, Hollywood, Farmer’s market and local beaches like Newport Beach and Huntington Beach, the latter known as “Surf City.” We hike up the hill to the famous “Hollywood” sign overlooking the city. See the shops on Rodeo Drive and the Chinese Theatre and the “Walk of Fame” in Hollywood. We also offer optional visits to Disneyland and/or Universal Studios.
During past trips, in the evenings we have also attended major league baseball games and World Team Tennis matches. Certainly, plenty to see and do when we are not on the tennis court !
